Majoceras was named by Zhuravleva (1964) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem O Aren Sepkoski's reference number: 298]. Its type is Majoceras jakutense. It is the type genus of Majoceratidae.
It was assigned to Majoceratidae by Zhuravleva (1962), Crick (1981) and King (1993); and to Intejocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
