Rossoceras was named by Flower (1964) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren O Llvi Sepkoski's reference number: 298]. Its type is Rossoceras lamelliferum.

It was assigned to Padunoceratidae by Crick (1981); and to Intejocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
