Huronia was named by Stokes (1824) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-u S Wenl-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524].

It was assigned to Huroniidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Crick (1981); and to Actinocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
