No actual diagnosis was given. The subgenus was named in the midst of a discussion of Tripteroceras (Lambeoceras) richmondensis Foerste, 1917, n. sp. In the same paragraph, “Tripteroceras lambi, Whiteaves,” was discussedIt is not completely clear as to whether Foerste was referring to “Tripteroceras lambi, Whiteaves,” or Tripteroceras (Lambeoceras) richmondensis Foerste, 1917, n. sp., as the type-species of the new subgenus. Teichert (1964, p. K209-K210) decided on “Gonioceras lambii Whiteaves, 1891”.].
It was assigned to Gonioceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Crick (1981); and to Actinocerida by Flower (1957) and Sepkoski (2002).
