Stolbovoceras was named by Balashov (1962) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi Sepkoski's reference number: 298].

It was assigned to Armenoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Crick (1981); and to Actinocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
