Taxonomy
Bisonoceras was named by Flower (1964) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. Its type is Bisonoceras corniforme. It is the type genus of Bisonoceratidae.

It was assigned to Endocerida by Sepkoski (2002); to Piloceratidae by Flower (1964), Crick (1981) and Evans (2011); and to Bisonoceratidae by Evans and King (2012).
