Chazyoceras was named by Flower (1958). Its type is Chazyoceras valcourense.
It was assigned to Endoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Crick (1981); to Endocerida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Proterovaginoceratidae by Evans and King (2012).
