Girtyocoelia sphaera
Taxonomy
Apocoelia sphaera was named by Rigby (1984). Its type specimen is USNM 340081 and is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Locality 3, Quebrada de Portachuelo, first high waterfall, which is in a Kungurian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal wackestone/siltstone in the Palmarito Formation of Venezuela. It is the type species of Apocoelia.
It was recombined as Girtyocoelia sphaera by Finks et al. (2004).
