Nautilus hallidayi was named by Waring (1914) [DISTRIBUTION: Paleocene; California.]. Its type specimen is Stanford University Paleo Type Coll. 560, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Eutrephoceras hallidayi by Vokes (1937) and Miller (1947).
