Juaboceras was named by Flower (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren O Llvi Sepkoski's reference number: 298]. Its type is Juaboceras brathwaitei.

It was assigned to Manchuroceratidae by Crick (1981); to Emmonsoceratidae by King (1993); and to Endocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
