Taxonomy
Hercoglossa merriami was named by Dickerson (1914) [DISTRIBUTION: Paleocene; California.]. Its type specimen is UCMP 11842, a partial shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP 243, south of Muir Station, which is in a Selandian coastal siliciclastic in the Vine Hill Formation of California.
