Taxonomy
Metriolepis scrupea was named by Cooper and Grant (1976). Its type specimen is USNM 153092e, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USNM705a, Hess Ranch, Glass Mountains, which is in a Kungurian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Skinner Ranch Formation of Texas.
