Taxonomy
Palaeaster coronella was named by Salter (1857). It is the type species of Phillipaster.

It was recombined as Stenaster coronella by Stürtz (1886) and Schuchert (1915); it was recombined as Salteraster coronella by Spencer (1918); it was recombined as Phillipsaster coronella by Owen (1965).
