Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
J. Dean Shackleton 2005 (Palasteriscidae)Ambulacral proximal podial flange with tongue overlapping distal flange; adambulacrals lateral with respect to ambulacrals; madreporite in contact with inferomarginal; madreporite no longer dorsal to inferomarginals; inferomarginals form ambitus; buccal slits; axillary not subrectangular.
D. B. Blake 2007 (Palasteriscidae)Five-armed asteroids. Abactinals paxilliform, aligned in series; primary circlet not recognized; carinal series at most weakly differentiated. Marginals absent, or in one, or two series. Actinal ossicles few to many. Actinal surface of ambulacrals recessed above actinal surface of adambulacrals. Adambulacrals upright and overlapping, articular flanges small. Ambulacrals square to slightly wider than long. Ambulacral radial canal forming broad, concave surface, although axial channel can be deep. Cross-furrow articular structures gracile. Adambulacrals wider than ambulacrals; adambulacrals prolonged adradially to form nose; articular surface between adambulacral, ambulacral comparatively small so that ambulacral at most only weakly overlaps adambulacral. Skeletal gap present. Buccal slit present. Axillary present, either large or small.
