Cleiothyridina rectimarginata was named by Cooper and Grant (1976). Its type specimen is USNM 152471o, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USNM709b, Moran Formation, Moran, which is in an Asselian marine limestone in the Moran Formation of Texas.
