Taxonomy
Neospirifer amphigyus was named by Cooper and Grant (1976). Its type specimen is USNM 152894y, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Trigorhium amphigyus by Waterhouse (2001) and Waterhouse (2004).
