Taxonomy
Budenbachia was named by Stürtz (1886). Its type is Budenbachia beneckei.

It was synonymized subjectively with Taeniaster by Spencer (1934); it was corrected as Bundenbachia by Lehmann (1957); it was misspelled as Bundenbachia by Spencer (1940) and Owen (1965).

It was assigned to Protasteridae by Schuchert (1915), Spencer (1940), Lehmann (1957) and Owen (1965).
