Macrocheilus avellanoides was named by de Koninck (1863). It is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Macrochilina avellanoides by Grabau (1931); it was recombined as Macrochilina (Sphaerodoma) avellanoides by Reed (1944); it was recombined as Strobeus avellanoides by Kummel and Teichert (1970); it was recombined as Soleniscus avellanoides by Termier and Termier (1977).
