Metopaster elongatus was named by Breton and Néraudeau (2008). Its type specimen is Holotype MHNH 9142, paratypes 9143 and is not a trace fossil.

Néraudeau 2008Distalmost superomarginal enlarged, low, trapezoidal in abactinal view, slightly upright distally, with a very elongate adradial face, and articulated with two to three inferomarginal, a terminal and few abactinal plates. External face slighlty concave because of the distal upright, without a differenciated central area. ornament of very fine and dense granule pits.
