Reedsoceras was named by Foerste (1929) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara Sepkoski's reference number: 298].

It was assigned to Westonoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Crick (1981); and to Discosorida by Sepkoski (2002).
