Thomasites gongilensis

Taxonomy
Vascoceras gongilensis was named by Woods (1911) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenomanian-Turonian; Europe, Middle East.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Gongila (Falconer collection), which is in a Turonian carbonate limestone in Nigeria. It is the type species of Gombeoceras.

It was recombined as Gombeoceras gongilensis by Reyment (1954); it was recombined as Gombeoceras gongilense by Reyment (1955) and Barber (1957); it was recombined as Thomasites gongilensis by Zaborski (1987), Meister (1989) and Kennedy and Simmons (1991).
