Hamites saussureanus was named by Pictet (1847). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Anisoceras saussureanum by Haas (1942); it was recombined as Anisoceras saussureanus by Cantu-Chapa (1962), Kennedy (1994) and Kennedy et al. (1998).
