Nostoceras hyatti was named by Stephenson (1941). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Nostoceras (Nostoceras) hyatti by Kennedy (1986), Kennedy and Cobban (1993), Kennedy (1993), Kennedy (2000) and Küchler and Odin (2001).
