Taxonomy
Winnipegoceras was named by Foerste (1928). Its type is Winnipegoceras laticurvatum.

It was assigned to Oncoceratidae by Strand (1934); to Westonoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Crick (1981); and to Discosorida by Sepkoski (2002).
