Amaltheus ebrayi was named by de Loriol (1882). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Parengonoceras.
It was recombined as Parengonoceras ebrayi by Spath (1924), Casey (1978), Kennedy et al. (1998), Latil (2008) and Bulot (2010).
