Ammonites neocomiensis was named by d'Orbigny (1841) [DISTRIBUTION; Valanginian-early Hauterivian; western and southern Africa.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Neocomites (Neocomites) neocomiensis by Klein (2005); it was recombined as Neocomites neocomiensis by Böse (1923), Anderson (1938), Imlay and Jones (1970), Wiedmann (1979), Reboulet (1996), Lukeneder (2004) and Zell et al. (2015).
