Inoceramus ernsti was named by Heinz (1928) [DISTRIBUTION: Coniacian-Turonian; Cosmopolitan.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Inoceramus (Inoceramus) ernsti by Kinger and Kennedy (1980).
