Poteriocrinidae was named by Roemer (1851). It is not extant. Its type is Poteriocrinites.

It was corrected as Poteriocrinitidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978), Webster and Lane (1987) and Webster and Lane (2007).

It was assigned to Inadunata by Laudon (1936); to Poteriocrinitacea by Ubaghs et al. (1978) and Webster and Lane (1987); and to Dendrocrinida by Webster and Lane (2007).
