Pirasocrinacea was named by Moore and Laudon (1943). Its type is Pirasocrinus.

It was corrected as Pirasocrinoidea by Webster et al. (2009).

It was assigned to Poteriocrinina by Moore and Strimple (1973) and Ubaghs et al. (1978); and to Dendrocrinida by Webster and Lane (2007) and Webster et al. (2009).
