Taxonomy
Mortoniceras woodsi was named by Spath (1921). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Submortoniceras.

It was recombined as Submortoniceras woodsi by Spath (1926), Kennedy et al. (1973), Kennedy et al. (1981) and Kennedy and Cobban (1993).
