Ptychoceras meyrati was named by Ooster (1860) [DISTRIBUTION: Aptian; Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Euptychoceras.

It was recombined as Euptychoceras meyrati by Avram and Gradinaru (1993) and Klein et al. (2007).
