Taxonomy
Ammonites theobaldianus was named by Stolickza (1865) [DISTRIBUTION: Coniacian; southern Africa, India, Patagonia.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Kossmaticeras.

It was recombined as Holcodiscus theobaldianus by Paulcke (1907); it was recombined as Kossmaticeras theobaldianum by Cooper (2003); it was recombined as Kossmaticeras (Kossmaticeras) theobaldianus by Kennedy et al. (2007); it was recombined as Kossmaticeras (Kossmaticeras) theobaldianum by Kennedy and Klinger (1985) and Kennedy (2018).
