Danaoceras was named by Foerste (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524].

It was assigned to Polyelasmoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964); and to Oncoceratida by Sepkoski (2002).
