Taxonomy
Ammonites cunningtoni was named by Sharpe (1855) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenomanian; Cosmopolitan.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Cunningtoniceras.

It was recombined as Acanthoceras cunningtoni by Böse (1928); it was recombined as Euomphaloceras cunningtoni by Zaborski (1985); it was recombined as Cunningtoniceras cunningtoni by Anderson (1958), Matsumoto and Skwarko (1993), Kennedy (1994), Wright et al. (1996), Mosavinia and Wilmsen (2011) and Kennedy (2013).
