Ammonites rusticus was named by Sowerby (1817) [DISTRIBUTION: Turonian; Europe.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Combpyne Rousdon, which is in a Turonian marine limestone in the Middle Chalk Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Metasigaloceras rusticum by Kennedy (1994) and Wright et al. (1996).
