Scaphites spiniger was named by Schlüter (1872) [DISTRIBUTION: Campanian; Europe, central Asia, western Interior.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Trachyscaphites spiniger by Atabekyan and Khakimov (1976), Kennedy (1986), Cobban and Kennedy (1992), Kennedy (1993) and Niebuhr et al. (2016).
