Taxonomy
Ammonites dufrenoyi was named by d'Orbigny (1840). It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Dufrenoya.

It was recombined as Dufrenoya dufrenoyi by Stoyanow (1949); it was recombined as Dufrenoyia dufrenoyi by Renz (1982) and Bersac and Bert (2019).
