Taxonomy
Baculites gaudini was named by Pictet and Campiche (1861) [DISTRIBUTION: Albian.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Lechites, Lechites (Lechites).

It was recombined as Lechites gaudini by Matsumoto (1959) and Henderson (1990); it was recombined as Lechites (Lechites) gaudini by Szives (2007), Kennedy and Latil (2007) and Kennedy et al. (2008).
