Taxonomy
Polyelasmoceras was named by Teichert and Glenister (1952) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi Sepkoski's reference number: 299]. Its type is Polyelasmoceras aduncum. It is the type genus of Polyelasmoceratidae, Cyrtogomphoceratidae.

It was assigned to Cyrtogomphoceratidae by Teichert and Glenister (1952); and to Oncoceratida by Sepkoski (2002).
