Taxonomy

Ammonites indra was named by Forbes (1846). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pondicherry, which is in a Maastrichtian marine sandstone/claystone in the Valudavur Formation of India. It is the type species of Pseudophyllites.

It was recombined as Pseudophyllites indra by Marshall (1926), Matsumoto (1959), Jones (1963), Henderson and McNamara (1985), Kennedy (1986), Kennedy and Summesberger (1986), Macellari (1986), Kennedy and Henderson (1992), Ward and Kennedy (1993), Kennedy and Hancock (1993), Courville and Odin (2001), Klinger et al. (2001), Salazar et al. (2010), Zakharov et al. (2012) and Niebuhr et al. (2016).

Synonyms

Ammonites garuda was named by Forbes (1846). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pondicherry, which is in a Maastrichtian marine sandstone/claystone in the Valudavur Formation of India.

It was synonymized subjectively with Pseudophyllites indra by Kennedy and Henderson (1992).
Gaudryceras colloti was named by de Grossouvre (1894). Its type specimen is EMP 1776, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Carrière Bernès, between Gan and Rébénacq (de Grossouvre collection), which is in a Maastrichtian marine marl in the Marnes de Nay Formation of France.

It was synonymized subjectively with Pseudophyllites indra by Kennedy and Hancock (1993).
