Taxonomy
Ptychoceras texanus was named by Shumard (1861) [DISTRIBUTION: Campanian; Western Interior.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Solenoceras (Solenoceras) texanum by Morozumi (1985); it was recombined as Solenoceras texanum by Kennedy and Cobban (1993), Kennedy et al. (2000) and Ifrim et al. (2015).
