Cucullaea schlotheimii was named by Geinitz (1841).
It was synonymized subjectively with Schizodus obscurus by Pattison (1970); it was recombined as Schizodus schlotheimi by King (1850), King (1856), Geinitz (1861), Airaghi (1907), Riedel (1917), Kłapciński (1967), Logan (1967), Gu et al. (1976) and Muromtseva and Guskov (1984).
