Worthenoceras was named by Foerste (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-l S Ludl Sepkoski's reference number: 524].

It was assigned to Acleistoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Chen et al. (1981); and to Oncoceratida by Sepkoski (2002).
