Taxonomy
Phylloceras onoensis was named by Stanton (1895) [DISTRIBUTION: Aptian; California.]. It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Phylloceras (Hypophylloceras).

It was recombined as Phylloceras (Hypophylloceras) onoense by Wright and Kennedy (1984) and Khiami and Murphy (1988); it was recombined as Hypophylloceras onoense by Packard (1960), Avram and Gradinaru (1993), Wright et al. (1996) and Murphy and Rodda (2006).
