Taxonomy
Strophalosia ovalis was named by Maxwell (1954). Its type specimen is UQF 15630, a valve (Ventral valve internal mould), and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Wyndhamia ovalis by Clarke (1973); it was recombined as Echinalosia ovalis by Dear (1971), Waterhouse (1982), Waterhouse (1986) and Briggs (1998).
