Taxonomy
Ophiopeza portei was named by Guillaume (1926). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Clay Lense, Ranville quarry, Calvados, which is in a Bathonian shallow subtidal claystone/limestone in France.
It was recombined as Sinosura portei by Hess and Meyer (2008).
