Endolobus was named by Meek et al. (1865) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp-l C Mosc-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524].

It was assigned to Eudoceratidae by Hyatt (1894); to Cephalopoda by Raymond (1911); to Nautilida by Sepkoski (2002); to Koninckioceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Niko and Mapes (2016); and to Trigonoceratidae by Korn et al. (2020).
