Eucymatoceras was named by Spath (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: K Barr Sepkoski's reference number: 524].

It was assigned to Cymatoceratidae by Kobayashi (1954), Teichert et al. (1964) and Sundberg (1984); to Nautilida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Nautilidae by Shimansky (1975) and Delanoy et al. (2012).
