Taxonomy
Gzheloceras was named by Ruzhentsev and Shimanskiy (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u P Leon Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. Its type is Gzheloceras uralense. It is the type genus of Gzheloceratidae.
It was assigned to Tainoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964); to Nautilida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gzheloceratidae by Shimanskiy (1967) and Laptikhovsky et al. (2013).
