Polyptychites diplotomus was named by Koenen (1902) [DISTRIBUTION: Valanginian; Europe, Greenland.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Euryptychites diplotomus by Jeletzky and Kemper (1988); it was recombined as Polyptychites (Euryptychites) diplotomus by Alsen (2006).
